Services & Expertises

LIPH4SAS provides services to academic scientific communities and private partners to facilitate global approaches.

The LiPh4SAS infrastructure enables scientific communities to:

• to have access to phenotypes measured on large batches of animals (so-called “horizontal” phenotyping). These batches of animals are of controlled health status and:

○ located in contrasting and characterized environments (e.g. Normandy grassland region vs. mountain area; pigs managed in a standard system vs. managed according to organic farming specifications), thus making it possible to study questions of adaptation to environment and the interactions between genetics and environment.

○ From original populations, either existing or produced in an experimental setting (divergent selection), presenting extreme characteristics making them very useful for the study of certain biological functions. The genome of most progenitors of these lines is characterized

○ The phenotypes are increasingly automated on the animal and its environment, thus allowing access to long chronicles;

• to have access to means of functional exploration making it possible to obtain fine phenotypes on certain animals (vertical phenotyping) allowing the functional exploration of biological systems from the whole animal (surgery, imaging, energy metabolism) to the biomolecule (molecular phenotyping) through intermediate scales (organ, tissue, etc.);

• to have access to biological samples of different kinds (blood, tissue, saliva, urine, faeces samples, etc.);

• to have access to genetically well-characterized animals (genotyping, sequencing)

• Benefit from methodological support for experimental planning and, where applicable, data analysis.
